On the north of the island lies the tidal Loch an Sticir. In it, three islands are connected by man-made causeways. Since the Iron Age, a broch has existed on the eastern island. Later, in the 16th century, a fort was built on the broch. It was the home of Hugh MacDonald of Sleat who plotted to murder his cousin.
