_265 Balranald Nature Reserve "Balranald Nature Reserve is a wildlife-rich coastal grassland in the West of North Uist. This nature reserve is of great ecological importance as it is composed of sandy beaches, a rocky foreshore, wild marshes and sculpted sand dunes, whilst being a prime machair location. Machair is a rare soil that supports an outstanding variety of wildlife, while regulating the climate through climate sequestration. Machair is also essential for the traditional agricultural processes in North Uist on which the isle's economy depends on.
